There are several major mountain ranges in Europe.  The three that we will learn about are the Alps, the Pyrenees, and the Ural Mountains

If you have watched the movie Heidi you may have already seen the Alps, Europe’s largest mountain range.  If not here is a video of children riding a train to ski in the Swiss Alps.

The Pyrenees Mountains are locate between Spain and France. Video of a train that goes through these mountains. (Did you know there is a small country right between Spain and France?)

The Ural Mountains are located between Asia and Europe. Video

The highest mountain peak in Europe is Mount Elbrus in Russia.  Video

Three random facts about Europe’s geography-
A city in Europe is known as the city on 7 hills.   This is mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament just before he says that he is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.  Can you name the city?

Eurasia is the term used by those who refer to Europe and Asia as one continent.

Greenland, the world’s largest island is in Europe. Video


Europe – Map and flag art project

Layers of Learning has shared an interesting art project for the study of Europe.

“Here is a simple Europe art project you can do with young students who are learning the continents.”  Continue reading on the Layers of Learning site.


We adapted it slightly by coloring the design of the flag of our chosen country inside its borders.  Then we continued with the project as originally planned.

I think you would enjoy working on these creative map projects while listening to audio books.  We try to incorporate reading and art into our Tuesday and Thursdays in this way.  It has been a great time for our family.
